New Hampshire

Are you like me and the rest of the human race who were shocked this week to see Hillary Clinton win the New Hampshire primary? It's prompted some troubling questions about the integrity of the vote there, most notably that the Diebold voting machines which are used throughout New Hampshire are easily corruptible. Some think those machines were hacked by Republicans to give Hillary the win, simply because the GOP would prefer to face her than Obama or Edwards. I am one of them.

You can hear some really interesting and worthwhile discussion of this matter on the Stephanie Miller show.

Here Stephanie interviews Brad Friedman, a journalist who's been following the issue of the Diebold machines for some time.

Here Stephanie interviews Dennis Kucinich about his subsequent call for a recount in New Hampshire.

Raising this question raises the specter of conspiracy, a possibility which is all but verboten in our society. But as you listen to these interviews (and you really should), note how utterly reasonable what they're discussing is. If the possibility of criminal conspiracy cannot be considered, then that grants a license to commit criminal conspiracy to those so inclined.

FYI, I'm voting for Edwards, though Obama wouldn't be bad, and Hillary beats any of the circus freaks in the GOP. (I apologize to any circus freaks I may have offended.)

Geez, just got the lump of coal comment. I think the people at Diebold are likely sending your emails to my spam box. I did get an email from Nicole though (conspiracy?). I spent the holidays at Ochsner having my appendix removed (7cm, size doesn't matter, neither does the appendix). I am back to work with minimal discomfort but a lot of paranoia about developing a hernia which would require more surgery. I am going to begin the month-long process of cleaning my apartment in anticipation of a Mardi Gras visit from my friend Hansie, who I think you have met before. Have mostly been out of touch with everyone except Veronica and the occational call from Vanessa who is doing fine. Anyway, enjoy the snow, I'll enjoy my lump of coal.

Matt,

Wow! I hope you're recovering OK. I'll talk to you soon.

Edwards is my favorite 'tho I don't think he'll get very far.

Well, Edwards said he's going to run in all fifty states, so we'll see.

One thing is clear, though, the corporate media will not talk about his candidacy, because it is a direct threat to them. By corporate media I mean all the media that's not based exclusively on the internet.

I thought the story out of New Hampshire was the fallibility of the media's predictive powers.

Well, that is one story. I would call it the cover story. One thing to consider is, if the polls were so inaccurate, why were they so accurate in predicting the Republicans' outcomes? I think the interviews summarize the concerns pretty well.

Also, Bart, the real concern about the election results and the polls lies in the discrepancy between the election results and the exit polls. Prediction has nothing to do with it. This is the international standard for questioning the validity of elections. Listen to the interview.
